April 2024: Natasha Marcus and Wesley Harris
Join the Wake Democratic Forum Thursday, April 4, 2024. We welcome NC Insurance Commissioner Candidate Natasha Marcus and State Treasurer Candidate Wesley Harris.
Natasha Marcus is a three-term State Senator from Mecklenburg County.
Senator Marcus has a B.A. in Public Policy from Hamilton College and a law degree from Duke University. She’s been on the front lines of community work for decades, including Moral Monday protests, gun violence prevention, Habitat for Humanity builds, marches in support of women’s rights and Black Lives Matter, volunteering at the local free health clinic, leading volunteers on the Obama and Clinton campaigns, co-founding the Democrats of North Mecklenburg group, and organizing voter registration drives. She also mentors young women who are interested in seeking elected office.
Wesley Harris is a native of rural North Carolina, growing up in Alexander and Iredell Counties, the son of a lifelong public school teacher and local banker. He graduated from UNC with a degree in Economics with Honors and got my PhD in Economics focusing on Public Finance from Clemson. Since being elected, Welsey is the only PhD economist serving in the legislature and has been the lead Democrat on every finance and economic based issue. That includes being the Democratic Finance Shadow Committee Chair the past 2 terms and Co-Chairing the Caucus Budget Strategy Committee this session. Prior to being elected Wesley worked as an International Tax Economic Consultant and has previously also taught college classes at Clemson, University of South Carolina, and UNC Charlotte. He is running for State Treasurer to ensure every corner of North Carolina has the investments they need to guarantee opportunity for everyone.
