Jan. 2024: Candidates Morgan, Thompson
Join the Wake Democratic Forum Thursday, January 11, 2024 as we hear from Justice Mike Morgan, candidate for NC Governor, and Judge Thompson, candidate for NC Court of Appeals.
Justice Morgan, a retired justice from North Carolina’s Supreme Court, has been a civil rights trailblazer all his life. He was the first Black student to attend New Bern’s Trent Park Elementary School in 1964 as a fifth grader before becoming the first Black drum major for the New Bern Senior High School in the eleventh grade. A graduate of Duke University and North Carolina Central University Law School, Justice Morgann served 34 years on the bench -- as an Administrative Law Judge (5 years), District Court (10 years), and on Superior Court (12 years), as well as on the Supreme Court (7 years).
Judge Carolyn Thompson is running statewide to remain in the Court of Appeals seat that Governor Cooper appointed her in September 2023. Judge Thompson has been a lawyer and judge for 25 years, sitting on District Court, Superior Court, and the Industrial Commission. For ten years she prosecuted petitions of abuse, neglect and nonsupport of children. Her practice also included representing victims of domestic abuse and their children. Judge Thompson earned her B.A. from Hampton University and her law degree from North Carolina Central University School of Law.
The Wake Democratic Forum (formerly known as the Wake Democratic Men’s Club) is sponsoring the event. Dinner is $25, but up to ten Young Democrats may receive a $15 fellowship using a code at check out.
