March 2024: Com. of Labor Braxton Winston, Court of App. Ed Eldred
Join the Wake Democratic Forum Thursday, March 7, 2024. We will be hearing from NC Commission of Labor candidate Braxton Winston and Court of Appeals candidate Ed Eldred.
Braxton Winston II was born in Camp Lejeune, N.C., where his father was stationed in the U.S. Marine Corps. As the child of a Marine and an elementary school teacher, the values of education, public service, and a strong work ethic were ingrained in Braxton at an early age. After graduating from Phillips Academy Andover and Davidson College, he became a union stagehand and a member of our region’s robust sports television and entertainment production community.
Braxton was elected to Charlotte City Council At-Large in 2017 and served as Mayor Pro Tem until 2023. Braxton learned during the six years on the Charlotte City Council that communities thrive when their workforces thrive. When workers have access to safe and stable jobs, fair wages, secure housing, transportation options, and good education options, our people do well and our state is better off. Braxton is running for Commissioner of Labor to make North Carolina the #1 state for business and workers.
Edward “Ed” Eldred, a seasoned trial and appellate lawyer, brings a wealth of experience to his candidacy for the North Carolina Court of Appeals. With a focus on local district courts and civil/criminal appeals, his dedication to upholding constitutional freedoms is unwavering. As a Democrat vying for this crucial position, Ed understands the significance of preserving the rights of North Carolinians and contributing to a more balanced judiciary.
Having clerked for judges at the Court of Appeals and worked extensively in both large firms and for himself, Ed's expertise spans over a decade, marked by numerous successful arguments and appeals. His commitment to justice is evident through his track record of winning reversals for clients across diverse civil and criminal cases.
Electing Democrat Ed Eldred is pivotal in chipping away at the Republicans' overwhelming majority on the Court of Appeals. With his dedication to fair, equitable rulings and extensive courtroom experience, Ed stands as a beacon for safeguarding the rights and liberties of all North Carolinians.
