June 2024: Mo Green and Dr. Sarah Taber
Please join us on Thursday, June 6 as we welcome candidates Maurice “Mo” Green (Superintendent of Public Education) and Sarah Taber (Commissioner of Agriculture).
Maurice “Mo” Green
Candidate for Superintendent of Public Education
“Mo” Green has been a lifelong champion for North Carolina’s public education, serving as Guilford County’s school district superintendent, chief executive for the Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation awarding grants in support of public education, and as general counsel to the Charlotte Mecklenburg School System. He is a graduate of Duke University Law School and its undergraduate program.
As superintendent of Guilford County’s school system, Mo developed and implemented the system’s first ever strategic plan that increased graduation rates, established a nationally recognized character education and service-learning program; two STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) early/middle colleges; a middle school preparatory academy focused on high student engagement and a technology based elementary school; a parent academy; and a summer arts institute
Dr. Sarah Taber
Candidate for Commissioner of Agriculture
Dr. Taber’s roots in agriculture run deep. Born to a military family, she helped operate her family’s small holdings and took field, garment shop, and factory jobs to pay for school. At a young age, Sarah learned that romanticizing farms doesn’t put food on the table. Agriculture has to be a viable livelihood or it’s just not worth doing.
In the years since, Sarah has made a career of bringing new people into agriculture and helping farm businesses grow. Now, she's on a mission to help North Carolina put our countryside to work and grow our economy as our next Commissioner of Agriculture.
