This November, our ballots will include more than candidates for public office. North Carolina voters will also be asked to weigh in on proposed amendments to our state constitution — and understanding exactly what those measures mean isn’t always easy.

At the October 1 Wake Dem Forum, we’ll welcome Heba Atwa, Director of Legislative Advocacy & Campaigns at the NC Budget & Tax Center, for an in-depth look at the constitutional amendments appearing on the November ballot, with particular attention to the two amendments involving tax and budget policy.

Heba will help us unpack the ballot language, understand the policy and fiscal context behind the proposals, and get a clearer picture of what voters are being asked to decide.

The NC Budget & Tax Center is a nonpartisan organization, and this program will focus on factual information, research, and analysis to help us as voters better understand the measures on the ballot.

Constitutional amendments can have lasting consequences, yet they often receive far less attention than candidate races. This is an opportunity to take a deeper look, ask the questions we know you have, and be better prepared before casting your November ballot.
